Yu Darvish Wins First Start Since 2014

May 29, 2016 11:28 PM

Yu Darvish hit 98 mph in the first inning of his first start in the majors in almost 22 months.

Texas catcher Bobby Wilson is just glad he wasn't running to the backstop after that pitch, and a few others early in the Rangers' 5-2 inter-league win over the Pittsburgh Pirates.

It was the Japanese right-hander's return from last year's Tommy John surgery Saturday night.

Payback for an aggressive slide during last October's NLDS, if that's what it was, cost the Mets their ace.

Noah Syndergaard was ejected by plate umpire Adam Hamari from Saturday night's game against the Dodgers in the third inning for throwing a 99 mph fastball behind NLDS villain Chase Utley.

Julio Urias Departs Early In Debut

May 29, 2016 11:27 PM

The first teenage starter in 11 years failed to get through three innings Friday, when Dodgers rookie Julio Urias departed after 2 2/3 innings against the Mets.

But the short outing mattered little to Urias.

"I'm not going to lie. When I went out there, I started thinking of everything I had to go through to get here," he said, speaking through a translator after the Dodgers' 6-5 loss.

"I will never forget everything that happened in this game because this is the happiest day of my life."

Odor, Bautista In Fistfight As Rangers-Jays Brawl

May 15, 2016 8:30 PM

A feud simmering since Jose Bautista's bat flip in last year's ALDS boiled over into a brawl in the final game of the season between the Blue Jays and Rangers.

Bautista and Texas second baseman Rougned Odor got into a fistfight behind the bag after a hard slide by the Toronto slugger at Odor's legs in the midst of a double play in the top of the eighth inning. Players from both teams rushed the field, and Odor landed a punch to Bautista's face.

Carlos Beltran Hits Career HR No. 400

May 16, 2016 7:43 AM

Carlos Beltran belted career home run No. 400 on Sunday afternoon, which put the Yankees slugger in some rare company.

The 39-year-old became the 54th player in major league history to reach that milestone and just the fourth switch-hitter. He joined fellow Yankee Mickey Mantle, Eddie Murray and Chipper Jones.

"It's a great accomplishment," Beltran said. "You mention three great players, and just to be next to them, it motivates me to continue, to finish my career strong and just see what I'm capable of doing."

Pirates Upset By Jake Arrietta's HBP

May 15, 2016 1:33 AM

This season's games between the Cubs and Pirates haven't been as competitive as many thought, but the rivalry has remained heated nonetheless.

For the second time in as many series, both benches were warned Saturday after each side hit a batter.

Some Pirates thought Cubs starter Jake Arrieta's fourth-inning pitch, which hit Jung Ho Kang, was intentional, though the Cubs vehemently denied it.

Both sides agreed that Pirates starter Jeff Locke's sixth-inning fastball, which nicked catcher Miguel Montero, wasn't intentional.
